Welcome to the first installment of our new blog series, "The Makers," where we delve into the inspiring stories and artisanal creations of talented craftspeople. In this series, you'll discover the passion, creativity, and dedication that go into each handmade product, bringing unique charm and warmth to our lives.
Today, we begin with LessCandles, a small family-run business dedicated to bringing warmth and beauty into homes. Several years ago, the founders decided to leave one of Lithuania's largest cities to embrace the peace and simplicity of village life. This move was not just about changing surroundings but also about fulfilling dreams of building a home and living a sustainable, nature-centric life. Every purchase from LessCandles supports this dream, helping to complete their home and thrive in their idyllic farmstead.
The journey into candle making at LessCandles began with a quest for uniqueness. Initially, the focus was on creating gel candles and oil lamps adorned with intricate decorations. Over time, the creative process evolved into hand-poured, shaped, and decorative candles. Inspired by traditional Japanese craftsmanship, the artisans at LessCandles embarked on an exploration that involved hundreds of trials with various paints and waxes until they perfected their current method.
Today, LessCandles proudly offers beautifully hand-painted candles, each meticulously crafted with love and care, without the use of any machinery. These candles are not just products; they are pieces of art, each telling a story of dedication and a deep connection to nature.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of the work at LessCandles is the
collection of natural elements from meadows and forests. Birch bark,
acorns, moss, chestnuts, and even snail shells are transformed into
stunning candles, encapsulating the essence of the great outdoors. There
is a strong emphasis on repurposing materials that would otherwise be
discarded, such as orange and kiwi peels or eggshells, to create
charming, eco-friendly decorations for the home.
